IRVINGTON — A former Irvington man accused of murdering his wife in 2003 returned to the United States from Ghana, where he was captured, authorities said.
“As with any international fugitive case, a lot of sweat equity went into this investigation, beginning with the Irvington Police Department, and ending with the Ghana Police Service,’’ said FBI Special Agent-In-Charge Michael B. Ward.
Richard Konadu, 39, will face weapons and murder charges related to his alleged role in the shooting death of his wife, and mother of two, 27-year-old Regina Carroll, said acting Essex County Prosector Carolyn A. Murray.
Konadu fled to England and then to Ghana after the shooting, and an international investigation ensued.
The FBI office in Newark coordinated the overseas investigation with overseas agents, U.S. diplomatic security services in Nigeria and Sierra Leone and the Ghana Police Service, authorities said.
