CSUC cuts itself from NUGS

The Christian Service University College(CSUC) says it is dissociating itself from the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG).

A letter dated 20th December, 2010 signed by the president of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the CSUC, Samuel Binfoh Dakwa and Daniel Badu Botah, the Vice Secretary of the Students’ Representative Council and addressed to the president of NUGS states the reason for the purported secession from the two unions as anarchy and a lack of focus within the unions. “This decision was reached after a careful appreciation of the current state of anarchy and lack of focus in both the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) and the University Students’ Association of Ghana (USAG),” the letter stated

The decision according to the letter was taken by the General Assembly which is the highest decision-making body of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at its meeting held on Sunday 19th December, 2010, adding that “…. the Students’ Representative Council of our institution would have nothing to do with both organizations until we find the structures and systems in both Unions to be properly sanitized and respected by its members”.

In an interview with focus news, Innocent Badasu, National President of the University Students’ Association of Ghana said the was something fishy about the letter considering the fact that it was not co-signed by the General Secretary of the CSUC SRC but by the vice secretary.

He stated emphatically that there is no anarchy or lack of focus within USAG, adding that all is well with the Association. He however expressed his willingness to probe the issue to find out what the underlying causes are.

the president of CSUC,Samuel Binfoh Dakwa and the NUGS president could not be reached for comments despite attempts by focus news.
