Aburi (E/R), Jan. 15, GNA – Reverend Samuel Adjei, President of the Christian Friends of Democracy, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has cautioned Ghanaians against 93pushing” the Government to support the pro= posed military action in Cote D’Ivoire. He explained that any involvement by the country in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) proposed action to oust President Laurent Gbagbo from office could spark reprisals against the Ghanaian community in Cote D’Ivoire.
Rev. Adjei said there were many Ghanaians in that country and any involvement in military operations could put the lives of many of them in danger. Rev Adjei made the comments in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Aburi on Friday.
He said the continuous refusal of Mr Gbagbo to hand over to his successor, Mr Alassane Qattara, despite the threat by the sub-regional body was a demonstration of the weakness in the ECOWAS. Rev. Adjei therefore called for more efforts to ensure that ECOWAS got closer to the citizens of the sub-region for them to appreciate its role an= d importance. He called on Mr Gbagbo to give peace a chance to help save the country from war.
