Bongo (U/E), Dec 27, GNA – Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyarum, Paramount Ch= ief of the Bongo Traditional Area, has appealed to chiefs in the three northern regions to use the Christmas and New Year periods to nurture peace in their traditional areas.
He said in a Christmas and New Message that chiefs should allow government to apply the rule of law to settle chieftaincy issues when necessary.
Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyarum said chieftaincy problems in the area was affecting development and hence the need to help address them to pave way for development.
He called on parents to send their children to school and said that education was the key to development.
He appealed to the youth in the area to seek to climb high the education ladder saying it was only through education that they could be empowered properly to improve upon their living conditions. Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyarum said he cherished education and a lot of needy students were benefiting from the Education Endowment Fund he had set up.
He appealed to citizens of the area to contribute to the fund and said h= e was not happy with the performance of candidates in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and blamed the situation partly on the teacher/pupil ratio.
Naba Baba Salifu Aleemyarum appealed to the Ghana Education Service to post more teachers to the area and ensure that they stay to teach. He said majority of teachers who are posted to the district mostly fail to report. He suggested to the Ghana Education Service to make it compulsory for teacher trainees who complete their education in the Region to be posted to schools in the Region.
