Kansawurado (W/R), – 9 June More than 50 children of Kansawurado, near Sekondi, have been screened and treated of bilharzia at the expense of the Forest Products Inspection Bureau (FPIB) ladies club. Mrs Vivian Adade, a Nursing sister of the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital, disclosed this during ”health talks” organised by the club for the inhabitants of Kansawurado at the weekend. Mrs Adade said the number may be more than 50 and might include grown-up males who have not been screened. She said the Kansawura River near the town has been established to be the source of the disease. Some of the children have been dewormed while malaria treatment has also been administered to others. Mrs Adade advised parents to prevent their children from swimming in the Kansawura River. Miss Cecilia Blankson, of the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana, later educated the people on the need to space their births by using the various family planning methods. Mrs Cynthia Mac-Andoh, President of the club, said the aim of the club is to educate rural people on prevention of deseases and teenage pregnancy.
