Bawku, Sept.17, GNA – Civil and public servants in the Bawku Municipality have appealed to the government and development partners to save the municipality from losing workers due to acute shortage of accommodation.
They told the GNA in an interview that the 60-unit state bungalows were not enough and could not accommodate all of them. Mr Paul Apam, Municipal Secretary of the Civil Servants Association, said lack of accommodation was affecting the out put of workers especially heads of department.
He said aside the conflict, most workers declined to accept posting to the area due to lack of accommodation, saying that the situation had contributed to the low generation of internal funds for the assembly.
Mr Abudulia Musah, Municipal Chief Executive, said the Bawku conflict was the main cause of pressure on accommodation in the area. He said aside government’s effort to solve accommodation problems for workers it had undertaken some projects which include putting up classrooms, dormitory blocks for senior and junior high schools, health facilities and roads in the municipality. Mr Musah appealed to workers to take up postings to the area, adding that peace had returned to the area.
