GBC challenged to concentrate more on developmental issues

Koforidua, Aug. 29, GNA – Reverend Ernest Oware Dakwa of Mile 50 Presbyterian Church near Koforidua, has challenged the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) to concentrate more on developmental issues rather than politics.

He said by so doing GBC would be contributing more effectively towards national development.

Rev. Dakwa was preaching the sermon at a thanksgiving service organized by the Sunrise FM at the forecourt of GBC in Koforidua to climax the 75th anniversary celebration of the station in the Eastern Region on Sunday.

He regretted that, despite Ghana being a country blessed with more natural resources in Africa more often the country was seen “roaming the world with cup in hand” for support.

Rev. Dakwa urged GBC to play down on the “New Patriotic Party versus the National Democratic Congress politics on air” which turned to divide the nation and concentrate more on issues that unite the nation and promote development.

He suggested the introduction of political off-season after elections for the nation to concentrate on developmental issues and unity.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Ms Beatrice B. Boateng, on the other hand, said politics could be found everywhere; in the Church and at home, adding that it was all about leadership and management of resources.

She blamed the electorate for making politics in the country look like a fight.

Ms Boateng advised the electorate to observe the performance of the people they elect into office and to use that as a criterion to either renew their mandate or to reject them based on their outputs.

She urged women to get involved in politics so that they could affect the decision making process.
