Minister assures union of government’s efforts

Accra, Aug 21, GNA – Mr. Joe Gidisu, Minister of Roads and Highways, has assured the Construction, Building and Materials Workers Union that the President is urgently considering the appointment of a Board Chairman for the Ghana Highway Authority.

However, for the smooth running of the Authority, Mr Gidisu said, the government had asked him as the sector Minister to hold the fort.

He was speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on CBMWU’s call for the appointment of substantive chairman for the board, inaugurated a year ago.

Mr Gidisu said the board’s activities are guided by rules and regulations and issues are decided on merit and where necessary subjected to a vote.

“To say that the board would be ineffective because of the absence of substantive chairman may mean undermining the integrity of the generality of members,” he added.

Mr. Gidisu said he did not impose his views on them would not do anything likely to generate conflict between them.”

Earlier on, Mr Pius K. Quainoo, General Secretary of the CMBWU, called on the Minister to expedite action on the appointment of a substantive Board Chairman.
