Adult learners are empowered people

Dandwa (BA), July 5, GNA – Mr. Samuel Owusu-Adjei, Nkoranza South District Chief Programme Officer of the Non-formal Education Division (NFED), on Sunday stated that the Functional Literacy Programme (FIP) has brought about the empowerment of adult learners. This, he noted has also made them to be involved in the decision-making processes of their communities and also contribute effectively towards national development.

He therefore urged the facilitators and supervisors of the programme to encourage the learners to undertake development programmes in their communities to ensure remarkable improvement in their living conditions. Mr. Owusu-Adjei was addressing the chiefs and people of Dandwa in the district after facilitators and learners in the area had organized the community to undertake a three hour clean-up exercise. He expressed appreciation for the hard work and the effort of the chief, Nana Yaw Aduobo II, to participate in the exercise, and added that the good practices of the chief showed his commitment and dedicated to serve the people.

Mr. Owusu-Adjei called on the people to maintain their unity and communal spirit, so that they could initiate a number of development programmes to move the community forward. Messrs Victor Ameyaw and Kwaku Manu, Principal programme officers of the Nkoranza South and North Districts of NFED respectively commended the adult learners for initiating the exercise.

They stressed the need for the people to undertake the exercise regularly to keep the area clean to guard against the outbreak of diseases. Nana Aduobo for his part, praised the adult learners for registering with the functional literacy programme to acquire formal education.
