49th Kumasi Diocesan Methodist Synod opens

Kumasi, May 20, GNA – The Kumasi Diocese of the Methodist Church is to develop a 13-acre land at Krobo Odumase (K.O), Kumasi, for commercial purposes, the Right Reverend Professor Osei Safo-Kantanka, the Diocesan Bishop, has said.

The architectural design for the construction of office complexes, warehouses, a car park and banking halls is ready. Rt. Rev. Safo-Kantanka said the project was in line with the church’s strategic plan to generate enough revenue to support its growth and the socio-economic progress of the society.

Rt Rev Safo-Kantanka was addressing the opening of the 49th Annual Synod of the Diocese at Bohyen in Kumasi, under the theme; “I Have Given You Every Land on which You Step.”

The four-day meeting is to review the church’s activities during the past year, make amends where it fell short and plan for the way forward. The Bishop said it was time churches mobilized more resources to build additional vocational and technical schools as well as polytechnics to provide the youth with skills for the job market. Rt. Rev Safo-Kantanka expressed dissatisfaction with the establishment many universities into liberal arts and business courses instead of science and technology and said this was contributing to the growing graduate unemployment.

He called for intensification of the church’s evangelism to win more members. The Most Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Presiding Bishop of the Church, said Methodism had come of age and urged the members to work assiduously in their various capacities for the benefit of the church. He appealed to the members to support the Methodist Development Fund to strengthen the financial base of the church. 20 May 10
