Apam (C/R), May 10, GNA – Reverend Father Jude Eduafo Ampah, Parish Priest of Apam St. Josephs’ Catholic Church, has suggested the need for government to institute an awards scheme for mothers who have proved exceptional in the care of children.
Rev. Fr. Ampah made the suggestion during a church service at Apam in the Central Region to mark Mothers’ Day. The second Sunday of May every year is set aside to honour mothers for their role in child care and maintenance. Rev. Fr. Ampah commended mothers for the significant job they do in raising children to become responsible citizens. As a sign of recognition for their good work, the priest suggested that at least five Mothers must be selected from each district for awards every year.
He said the interest the day had generated, suggested that children would be willing to contribute towards the awards if instituted. Rev. Fr. Ampah condemned children who accuse their mothers of possessing witchcraft which tend to undermine their progress in life. Mrs. Selina Bondzie, a staff midwife used the occasion to launched the 2010 Child Promotion Week on theme: “Men on board for healthier children.”
The week was instituted by the Ministry of Health to sensitise men to support their wives at the time of pregnancy, delivery and child care.
