Accra, April 26, GNA – The Kwame Nkrumah Planning Committee (KNPC), has on Monday organized a centenary photo exhibition on historical events of the political and social life of the first President of Ghana, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. The exhibition in honour of Ghana’s first President, was on the theme: “The Vision and Legacy” of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Professor Nii Noi Dowuna, a member of the KNPC, said the exhibition depicted the life, times and works of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and created a platform for all and sundry to remember the great contribution he rendered to Ghanaians and the African continent.
Prof. Francis Nkrumah, son of Dr. Nkrumah, cut the tape to officially open the exhibition.
It reflected pictures of visionary statements and visionary policies of Dr. Nkrumah, which inspired the people of Ghana and Africans to fight for independence and strive for self-governance.
The exhibition also portrayed Dr. Nkrumah as a visionary leader, who embarked on an industrialization initiative and built the Akosombo dam for electrification.
Prof. Nkrumah said the photographs constituted an invaluable resource for a nation, which was yet to record its history accurately, fairly and objectively.
Prof. Nkrumah said the first President many now recognize, was more than a name, or just a passing cloud, admired and even revered across the African continent and beyond.
He said the pictures on exhibition should serve as a living reminder of the struggle for Ghana’s political independence and the tremendous efforts by Dr. Nkrumah and the Convention People’s Party in laying the foundation for a planned accelerated national development agenda. Prof. Nkrumah also mentioned that the pictures portrayed images of Dr. Nkrumah’s role and contribution in advancing his vision for Pan-African unity, which he pursued with passion and vigour.
Prof. Nkrumah thanked the organizers of the programme for the initiative, and said the exhibition should not be confined to Accra alone but it should be replicated in other parts of Ghana to give the youth the opportunity to learn more about Dr Nkrumah. 26 April 10
