Chamber of Mines Gets New Chief Executive

The Ghana Chamber of Mines (GCM) has appointed Mrs. Joyce Wereko-Brobby as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). She takes over from Mr. J. Bentum-Williams, and will resume duty from 1st June 2001.

Educated at the Achimota School, the University of Ghana, and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Mrs. Wereko-Brobby excelled at the ministerial roles she played in the 1980’s during the PNDC era, and at various times in the Ministry of Information, Education, Local Government and Rural Development, and at the Castle, Osu.

She had worked at the Ghana Standards Board (GSB), the Environmental Protection Council (EPC) as it was then called, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

An affable and well-known social commentator, writer and broadcaster, she is currently the Founder and Executive Director of the Salt and Light Ministries, a Christian. She also writes a column on Christian values in the Ghanaian Chronicle.

Commenting on the appointment of Mrs. Wereko-Brobby, the President of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Mr. James Kwamena Anaman said: “The mining industry has found a gem to shine through the impressive legacy of Mr. Bentum-Williams. The level of advocacy and relevance we want to introduce into the work of the chamber has been considerably raised with this appointment”.
