NUGS gives ultimatum for disbursement of loans to students

Accra, Feb. 23, GNA – The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Tuesday expressed concern about the delay in the disbursement of loans to students and gave the Students Loan Trust Fund until February 26 to make good its obligation to the students of Ghana.

In a statement signed by Mr Winder Madilo , President of NUGS, the students said schools reopened more than one month ago but the loans had not yet been disbursed to students.

“This we find to be a blatant disregard and insensitivity to the plight of the poor Ghanaian student whose only source of hope is the loan,” NUGS said.

The students said all the reasons given by the Fund for the non-disbursement of the loans “do not in any way portray the reality on the ground”.

“Our checks at the various sectors relevant to your outfit have proven that you have no reason whatsoever for the delay,” NUGs said, adding that the students would “advice” themselves should the Fund fail to meet the deadline.
