Teachers urged to be dedicated to duty

Gomoa Ankamu C/R, Feb. 16, GNA – The Regent Queenmother of Gomoa Ankamu, Nana Gyamfuah Ampratwum, has appealed to teachers in her community to be selfless, dedicated and hardworking.

Nana Ampratwum said this when she launched an educational project dubbed “Right to know, Right to education” spearheaded by the Ghana National Education Campaign Coalition (GNECC) in some deprived districts in the Central Region including Gomoa Ankamu in Gomoa West District. It is being implemented in Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi and Swaziland with a common objective of helping each other to improve upon the education system in their various countries. Nana Ampratwum said when well educated, the children would grow into responsible adults to contribute in building a better nation and urged parents to desist from engaging them in economic activities to the detriment of their education.

She said the project was important because it would enlighten parents on the need to educate their children and ensure that their basic needs were provided.

Nana Ampratwum appealed to parents to accept the project and help to develop it to help increase enrolment in schools by the end of the year. The Gomoa West District Director of Education Mr. Fred Dunyoh, said the project seeks to build a vital relationship between parents and teachers for them to share information on the attitude and the performance of pupils and other relevant facts about the school. He said parents and teachers have a major role to play in the character formation of the child and appealed to parents to desist from following their wards to the school anytime they are punished for misconduct.
