Accra, Oct. 8, GNA – Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, former First Lady and President of the 31st December Women’s Movement (DWM) on Thursday urged women to embrace formal or non-formal education, to acquire knowledge to better their lot.
She also asked them to attach importance to the education of their children since they are the future leaders of the country. Nana Agyemang Rawlings was speaking at the inauguration of 15 offices of the DWM in the Ga South District of the Greater Accra Region. She asked women to form income generating groups, to enable them to save their money in the banks in order to acquire loans. Nana Agyemang Rawlings called on them to use their daily income or revenue judiciously.
She appealed to financial organisations to assist the movement to operate a women’s health centre.
Mrs Rosa Dela Hornu, District Organiser said the branch, which started with 30 women now had a membership of 4,000. She said the women who were engaged in bakery, had also acquired land to establish a day care centre, and a vocational school to train women in batik, tie and dye in addition to soap making.
