Mothers’ Union gives to traders at Central Market

Kumasi, Oct. 6, GNA – The Mothers’ Union of Saint Anne’s Anglican Church in Kumasi, has donated GH¢2,700 to 27 traders, who lost their wares to fire at the Kumasi Central Market in April, this year. The Right Reverend Dr Daniel Yinka Sarfo, Anglican Bishop of Kumasi, presenting the money in Kumasi, expressed satisfaction about the Union’s initiative to support the victims. He said even though the amount would not be enough for rebuilding the stores or replacing destroyed goods, the spirit behind the gesture was commendable. Rev. Dr. Sarfo said the donation was a demonstration of goodwill and that the Church shared with the traders their concerns and difficulties.

The Bishop said it was his prayer that God would replenish what the victims had lost to enable them to continue to take good care of their families and contribute to the development of the Church and country. Mrs. Mercy Winfred Bonsu, Diocesan President of the Union, said the group’s headquarters in London, Mary Sumner’s House, contributed GH¢2,200 of the donation and the remaining amount came from the Union. She said the Union has visited prisons, supported the rehabilitation of children’s homes and orphanages, shared the word of God with inmates and presented food for their upkeep. Mary Sumner’s House, with 300 members, is the only women’s organization of the Church with international linkage and has a representation at the Lamberth Conference, the worldwide Council in England.
