Create special fund for new district assemblies-pleads DCE

Kodie (Ash), Sept. 19, GNA – Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, District Chief Executive for Afigya-Kwabre, has suggested the establishment of a special fund to support new district assemblies to build physical structures for smooth administration. He said without such intervention it would be difficult for them to catch up with the older ones. Speaking to newsmen Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said his district that was created in 2007 had been operating from rented premises. He said apart from the lack of office accommodation for the assembly and its decentralized departments, there is also the problem of housing for the staff. Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said if nothing was done to create the right conditions, the new assemblies would continue to lag behind in the area of development. “If we do not receive special funding to provide the needed facilities, the newly created district assemblies would not get anywhere in the development process to meet the aspirations of the people.” Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku also appealed to the people to put their political affiliations behind and support the development of the district.
