Accra, Sept. 17, GNA – The Convention People’s Party (CPP) on Wednesday assured Ghanaians that the parliamentary results of the Party in the December 2008 elections showed great promise even though the candidates did not win their seats.
The CPP’s share of the total parliamentary vote nationwide was three per cent. The best performing Region for the CPP at the parliamentary level was the Western Region where it polled 11 per cent of the total votes.
Out of the top five constituencies nationwide in terms of parliamentary vote, four were from the Western Region. The top five constituencies nationwide were Jomoro, where CPP had their sole parliamentary candidate, Ms Samia Nkrumah, followed by Effia Kwesimintsin, Ellembelle, Prestea Huni-Valley and Ayawaso-West Wuogon. The Central Region followed with 3.75 per cent, and Greater Accra with 2.9 per cent.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary, Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, the leadership of the Party thanked Ghanaians for their votes and members of the Party for their hard work during the elections. It gave the assurance that it would continue to provide firm, decisive and fair leadership that “is inclusive of everyone’s interests as it proceeds with the re-organisational constitutional review process towards an early congress”.
The leadership therefore urged members to rally behind the Party to build a stronger “Convention People’s Party” at the polling station, ward, constituency, regional and National levels, especially in the centenary year of the founder Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. 17 Sept 09
