Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A) Sept.7, GNA – The Police in the Dormaa Municipality in the Brong Ahafo Region will embark on the comprehensive inspection and prosecution of defaulting drivers and other road users. The exercise, which took effect on Monday, is aimed at reducing motor accidents in the two Dormaa Districts.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) James Arthur, Municipal Police Commander, made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the wake of a fatal motor accident that claimed six lives at Wamfie in the Dormaa-East District. He said as part of measures to curtail human error in driving, no parking zones would be created in perceived accident prone areas whilst the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit, would thoroughly inspect documents of drivers and vehicles.
“By this rule we require that drivers and all other road users will comply with components of the highway code in order to stay clear of the rigours of traffic-related penalties”, DSP Arthur stressed. He appealed to passengers to avoid acts that had the potential to distract the concentration of drivers. DSP Arthur called on drivers to be conscious of basic traffic rules, such as the respect for fellow drivers and other road users. He advised drivers to eschew over-loading, wrong over-taking, speeding and drunk-driving.
DSP Arthur reminded vehicle owners and drivers to undertake regular maintenance and daily checks to ensure their road worthiness. “The nation’s greatest assets are its people and there is the need to protect human beings by avoiding man-made errors, which sometimes lead to loss of several lives in an accident. “Since only God can create life, it is equally prudent that we allow Him alone to take life,” he ended.
