MP for Nkoranza North donates computers to schools

Nkoranza (B/A), Aug. 25, GNA – Major Derek Oduro (rtd), MP for Nkoranza North, has presented 20 computers and accessories valued at about GHC 8000 to the Nkoranza District Directorate of Education for distribution to some Junior High Schools in the constituency. He said the gesture was aimed at encouraging the youth in deprived communities to be abreast with Information Communication Technology (ICT).

The MP noted that the lack of computers was a big challenge facing students in rural communities and since ICT was a global phenomenon there was the need for all youth to become computer literate. Major Oduro said he had plans to provide all Junior High Schools in the constituency with computers and called on teachers to redouble their efforts and help improve the standard of education in the area. Mr Yaw Ntim-Korsah, Assistant Director, in charge of Human Resource Management and Development, who received the items on behalf of the directorate, commended the MP for the gesture and urged heads of beneficiary schools to ensure that the computers were properly used. Mr Benjamin Adu-Darko, Presiding Member of Nkoranza North District Assembly said the donation was timely as it would greatly enhance effective teaching and learning.

In a related development, Major Oduro has told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza that he had purchased some water pumps to mechanize the borehole water system in four communities in the constituency to ensure the flow of water into households. The beneficiary communities are Bonte, Baafi, Bodom and Boana and the project would cost about GHC 50,000.

He said the project was to avert the outbreak of water-borne diseases in the communities and advised those who had not registered under the national health insurance scheme to do so. He urged opinion leaders to educate the people on the importance and benefits of the scheme.
