All refuse containers in the Awutu-Senya District are full

Awutu Beraku (C/R) July 18 GNA- All refuse containers at Kasoa and surrounding communities are full to capacity due to the inability of Awutu-Senya District Assembly to empty them since June. A Survey conducted by the Ghana News Agency (GNA), at the Kasoa new and old markets revealed that residents are compelled to dump their refuse on the ground. A cross section of the people, who spoke to the GNA, expressed fears that the situation could lead to epidemic outbreak in the area.

Mr Nuhun Adams, District Chief Executive confirmed that most of the containers were full and explained that continuous down pour had rendered the road to the Akrampah dumping site unmotorable. He said the assembly had hired a machine at the cost of 10,000 Ghana Cedis to rehabilitate the road and widen the site in order to accommodate more refuse.

Mr Adams said a team of environmental health Officials and members of the assembly had inspected works at the site. The DCE assured the people that evacuation of the refuse would begin immediately the road is completed and advised them not to dump refuse haphazardly.

They should also desilt drains and clear weeds to avoid the outbreak of diseases. 18 July 09
