Do not make corruptible demands on office holders – Mintah

Winneba Junction (C/R), June 22, GNA – Ghanaians have been urged to desist from making unnecessary demands on public office holders because it can corrupt them.

Mr Kofi Mintah, Chairman of the Central Regional Disciplinary Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who gave the advice, urged the people to learn some lessons from the on-going investigations of some former office holders by the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI). “Taking up a government appointment is not a gold mine for family members to exploit,” he said, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Winneba.

Mr Mintah urged the people to question their relatives about the source of their wealth when their lifestyles dramatically change. “You must be a watchdog for the economy,” he urged family members. He said it was unfortunate that some people had regarded the investigations as persecution of political opponents and added that it would trickle down to cover public and civil servants. Mr Mintah pointed out that President John Evans Atta Mills pledge to be a father for all did not mean that he would sit down unconcerned for a few of his children to eat and grow fat whilst others went hungry. He said the better Ghana he had promised Ghanaians must be built on a clean sheet. Mr Mintah cautioned NDC functionaries to be extra careful with how they disbursed funds.
