District assembly sub-committees to be revoked

Nkoranza (B/A) June 10, GNA – The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, has revoked the appointments of government representatives on the Urban, Town and Area councils, as well as the unit committees.

The Ministry has therefore tasked the district assemblies to reconstitute these bodies.

Mr. Kwame Gyedu Nuako, Nkoranza South Co Co-ordinating Director, disclosed this at an emergency meeting of the district assembly at Nkoranza, where the members re-organised the various sub-committees and reconstituted the Executive Committee. He urged the assembly members to ensure that committed and selfless persons are selected to fill the positions. Mr Nuako said the assembly would study the guidelines for the selection of new government appointees and address any associated problem.

Mr. Nuako advised the assembly members to inform and educate the electorate about the exercise in order to facilitate informed choices to enhance the development of their communities. Mr. Kwame Baffoe-Duah, Assembly Member for Nkwabeng-Yeboasa Electoral Area, expressed satisfaction about the decision of the Ministry, saying the change in government had rendered the unit committees redundant as members had felt reluctant to perform their duties.

He appealed to the district assembly authorities, to expedite action on the Ministry’s directive, so that the sub-committees could organise the people to initiate and execute development programmes. Mr. Isaac Asirifi-Kudom, Presiding Member of the Assembly, asked members to serve their respective sub-committees diligently. He exhorted stakeholders of the assembly to offer selfless and dedicated services for the accelerated development of the district. The chairmen for the various sub-committees of the assembly selected are, Mr. Franklin Effah, Social Services, Mr. Ahmed Gyabaah, Agricultural, Mr. Thomas Owusu-Ansah, Development Planning and Mr. George Ampienti, Justice and Security.

The rest are, Ms Sarah Oforiwah, Women and Children Welfare, Mr. Emmanuel Baffoe, Education, Nana Okofo Agyapong 111, Finance and Administration, M. Kofi Adu, Environmental Protection and Mr. Yaw Fosu-Munufie Works. 10 June 09
