Archbishop opens defence

Tarkwa, June 9, GNA – A Tarkwa circuit court has adjourned the case involving the 63-year-old Founder of the Christ Imitation Church at Asankragwa, Archbishop Kofi Atobrah Boadu, for firing a gun at the court premises at Asankragwa.

He will re-appear on June 12. Assistant Superintendent of Police Joseph Apaloo told the court that on May 14 Boadu went to the Asankragwa magistrate court and insulted the magistrate for passing judgment against his father. He said the magistrate had settled a marital issue between the accused person’s father, Okyeame Kwaku and Yaa Amatah and was in his chambers when he heard some noise at the court’s premises. He said an attempt by some of the staffs to calm him down proved futile. Boadu left the office premises but returned the second time and continued to insult the magistrate and threatened the other staffs and he drove off.

Mr Apaloo said the magistrate reported the incident to the police and when he returned to the court premises the accused person parked his vehicle behind that of the magistrate, got out of the car bare footed and continued to insult him. The accused person pulled out a gun and shot but no pellet came out. He went back into his vehicle and came out with a pistol and fired a shot at the court building. On hearing the sound of the gun, the magistrate ordered his staff to close for the day and called the police who took him to the police station. A report was made to the police and accused was arrested. 09 June 09
