Winneba (C/R), June 1, GNA – The new Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Nii Ephraim has called for the reintroduction of some cultural practices such as puberty rite, to help control teenage pregnancy and population growth.
The MCE said this at a day’s ‘Inter Effutu Municipal Junior Secondary and Primary Schools Culture Festival’ at Winneba. The festival under the theme “Culture an Epitome of Our Moral Value” was participated by the Anglican, Methodist, A. M. E. Zion, Presbyterian, Effutu Municipal Assembly Junior and Primary schools at Winneba.
The rest were Gyahadze, Ateitu, University Practice Junior and Primary schools at the South and North campuses. They exhibited in disciplines including choral, sight singing, poetry recital, drum language, and dance drama. The programme was organised to select teams to represent the municipality at the Central Regional Inter- District Basic Schools Culture festival at Cape Coast in August, 2009. Nii Ephraim stressed the need for Ghanaians to go back to their rich culture that was being replaced with foreign ones. The MCE entreated pupils who will be selected to represent the area, to put up their best efforts to enable them come out with flying colours.
He urged them to forget about their failures and move ahead because dreams are renewable. The MCE appealed to the children to take their studies serious to achieve success. Mrs Rita Ackon, a Director at the Municipal Education Office in charge of Human Resources, appealed to teachers in the area to be interested in the teaching of culture as well as other subjects, to enable the children know the rich Ghanaian culture.
