Curfew on Bawku and Gushegu renewed

Accra, May 11, GNA – The Ministry of the Interior has on the advice of the Upper East and Northern Regional Security Councils, renewed the curfews imposed on the Bawku Municipality and Gushegu township and their immediate environs for another week with effect from May 11. A statement in Accra signed by Dr Kwasi A. Apea-Kubi, Deputy Minister of the Interior, said the curfew hours remained unchanged from 12.00 midnight to 4.00 am each day.

The government appealed to all stakeholders, including chiefs, elders and opinion leaders to work towards peace by embracing the peace initiatives that had been embarked upon to foster harmony among the various factions. “The government continues to advise the people to use dialogue as the best way to address their differences since the absence of peace will continue to hamper the effective development of the areas.” Meanwhile, government is maintaining the ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipal area, Zabugu, Binduri, Pusiga, Zoasi and Gushegu townships and their environs from carrying arms, ammunitions or any offensive weapon. Any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
