Public urged to be safety conscious during the rainy season

Sekondi, April 11, GNA – Mr Alex Adu-Boahene, Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Co-ordinator of National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), has called on Ghanaians to ensure safety measures during the rainy season to prevent disasters in the country. Mr Adu-Boahene who made the call in an interview with Ghana News Agency at Sekondi, advised people to stay indoors during heavy rains, to avoid being trapped by falling trees, billboards and other structures. He advised them to refrain from holding on to electric poles, billboards, walls and objects during rainfall to avoid being electrocuted.

Mr Adu-Boahene said drivers should drive at reasonable speed during heavy rains because the asphalted roads became slippery. He said electronic gadgets such as television sets and radios should be switched off during lightning and thundering to prevent fire outbreak. Mr Adu-Boahene urged landlords to erect lightening arresters on their buildings to prevent fire outbreak and make buildings with weak foundation strong.
