Plumber before court for stealing laptop

Dormaa-Ahenkro(B/A), March 19, GNA – Tutu Prince, a plumber, has been remanded into prison custody by a circuit court in Dormaa Ahenkro till March 27 when he would re-appear for sentence over his involvement in the theft of personal effects valued at GH C2,100. An accomplice, identified only as Oppong, is on the run and the Police have declared him wanted. Prince pleaded guilty with explanation, but the court presided by Mr Justice V. C. Senu deemed the explanation as “a frivolous attempt to delay the court’s proceedings”.

Inspector Charles Agovi, prosecuting, said on October 3 last year, the complainant, a female trader resident at Low Cost in Dormaa-Ahenkro returned from a business trip to find that thieves had broken into her room and stolen some of her belongings. The prosecution said the items stolen included a lap-top computer, a DVD player, two mobile phones and two pairs of shoes, all valued at GHC 2,100.

He said police investigations led to Tutu Prince who was seen offering the lap-top for sale on March 10 this year and he was arrested. Prince during interrogation denied that he was involved in the theft of the items, saying he bought the lap-top from Oppong at GHC 500 of which he had made part payment of GH 350. 19 March 09
