Police to investigate attack on NPP activist in Kumasi

Kumasi, March 5, GNA – The Ashanti Regional Security Council (AREGSEC), has directed the Ashanti Regional Police Command to investigate the alleged attack and burning of a vehicle belonging to Mr Appiah Stadium, an NPP activist, at Asem in Kumasi on Tuesday. A statement issued in Kumasi on Thursday and signed by Mr Kofi Opoku-Manu, Ashanti Regional Minister said the incident should be investigated on purely criminal grounds.

It warned against politicisation of the incident by interested groups in order not to create violence.

The statement said the security agencies were monitoring the situation and anyone found culpable of fomenting trouble in connection with the incident would be dealt with according to law. Meanwhile, Linford Owusu, a 30-year-old shoe repairer who was arrested by the police on suspicion of involvement in the attack and burning of the vehicle, was on Thursday, remanded in prison custody by a Kumasi Circuit court.

Owusu, also known as CD, would re-appear before the court presided over by Mr Amoh Yartey on March 19, 2009.
