Chief leads his people to clean Techiman

Techiman, Feb. 20, GNA – Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw IV, Omanhene of Techiman Traditional Area, has called on private entrepreneurs, financial institutions and voluntary organisations to support the Techiman Municipal Assembly and the traditional council to regulate waste disposal in the municipality. This would help eliminate the filth that had engulfed the municipality through indiscriminate dumping of refuse by residents. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw said this after leading sub-chiefs, voluntary organisations, workers, social clubs and Zoomlion workers to undertake a five-hour clean-up exercise in Techiman. They swept homes, cleared weeds, de-silted gutters, collected garbage and cleared refuse dumps.

The Ghana National Fire Service led by Mr. Thomas Tuffour, municipal fire officer, assisted in washing the drains. Oseadeeyo Akumfi-Ameyaw said the socio-economic development of the municipality was the responsibility of all residents and collective efforts should therefore be made in finding a solution to environmental degradation in the area. He commended Aspet ‘A’ enterprise, a business firm, Ghana Nuts and Eureka Garages Association for providing tools for the exercise. Aspet ‘A’ donated 20 plastic waste containers, two drums of fuel and 50 sachets of “pure water”. Ghana Nuts provided transport, 10 sachets and 10 boxes of Voltic water, crates of minerals and Milo drink whilst Eureka assisted with 10 gallons of fuel. Nana Apenteng Fosu Gyeabour, Hansuahene and Baamuhene of the traditional area said the exercise would be organised quarterly to create awareness among residents about the need for good sanitation and asked community leaders to periodically lead the people in clean-up exercises.
