Accra, Jan. 8, GNA – The Church of the Province of West Africa (Anglican Communion) on Thursday said it was time to secure peace, security and dignity of everyone in the country. In a message to the nation after the inauguration of President John Evans Atta Mills, it said: “Let us continue to pray that each and all, especially the leadership, would be imbued with such right vision, sense of purpose and mission as will secure our peace, security and unity – no violence, no chaos, no bitterness.”
The message said the results of the elections showed that Ghana was a divided nation, but expressed the hope that differences of opinion may not be allowed to degenerate into personality animosity, hostility and marginalisation of anyone.
“All must cultivate humility,” the message signed by the Most Reverend Justice Akrofi, Archbishop and Primate of the Church of the Province of West Africa, said.
“Humility does not mean lying down to be walked all over. It is the disposition that refuses to think more highly of oneself than one ought to; it means the generosity to make excuses for all others than for oneself.” It urged the government to lead the nation in combating corruption and appealed to the leaders to “tame our tongues”. 8 Jan. 09
