Accra, Dec. 27, GNA – The Ghana Police Service on Saturday said it has no plan to do anything on behalf of any political party that would take away the credibility of the December 28 Presidential Election Runoff.
It has, therefore, asked the public, especially political parties to maintain confidence in the Police that it would provide the needed security to ensure a free and transparent election.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Patrick K. Acheampong said this at press briefing in Accra on the eve of the Runoff. He was reacting to concerns raised by some persons questioning the integrity of the Police Service in ensuring free and fair elections. “The Police is not rigging machinery and has not had discussions with any person or group of persons to interfere in the elections,” he said.
The IGP, therefore, asked all Ghanaians and other stakeholders to play their roles effectively in ensuring a credible election. He advised political parties to remain calm and gave the assurance that any complaint made to the Police in connection with the election would be given prompt response. Mr Acheampong also pledged that the Police would work to maintain peace as it prevailed during the December 7 general election.
