Special voting in run-off begins in Ashanti

Kumasi, Dec. 24, GNA- The special voting exercise in the Presidential Election Runoff took off peacefully at selected polling stations in Kumasi on Tuesday. Various places the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited showed a serene atmosphere as security personnel and other eligible voters were anxiously waiting in queues for their turn to cast their ballots. At the Oforikrom Police Park Polling Station, voting commenced successfully at 0700 hours and as at 0930 hours 25 people had cast their ballots.

Mr Kofi Kyei, the Presiding Officer of the centre told the GNA that over 600 eligible voters were expected to cast their votes there and that there were no hitches recorded. At the Asawase Community Centre Polling Station, the story was not different as eligible voters were seen casting their ballots. Nana Akoten Asamoah, the Presiding Officer of the Station, told the GNA that 138 registered voters were expected to cast their votes and that as at 1015 hours 32 people had voted.

When the GNA got to the Central Police Polling Station at 1350 hours, there were about 50 people in a queue. Mr Asare Bediako, the Presiding Officer, told GNA that 2,000 voters out of the expected 2,500 eligible voters had cast their ballots.

He said the exercise which started at 0700 hours morning had not witnessed any incident and that voting was smooth stressing that all the needed logistics for the election were available. 24 Dec. 08
