Elections in Mpohor Wassa East, peaceful

Daboase (W/R), Dec. 8, GNA – Mr. Yaw Amoako-Gyasi, Mpohor Wassa East District Electoral Officer, on Sunday said voting in parliamentary and presidential elections in the constituency were peaceful and orderly.

Briefing journalists at Daboase after the voting, the District Electoral Officer said there were no reported cases of violence and intimidation at all the polling stations in the constituency including those in the flashpoints.

Mr. Amoako-Gyasi said about 80 security personnel were deployed to maintain law and order at polling stations particularly at the flashpoints.

He said so far, there has not been reports of election offences and irregularities in the area. Mr. Amoako-Gyasi said there was problem with processing of transfer of names on the voters register.

He said party agents and local election observers were present at the polling stations to help ensure free, fair and transparent elections. Mr. Amoako-Gyasi said foreign election observers from All African Council of Churches and the Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) visited the polling stations.
