Police station project takes off at Buokrom

Kumasi, Oct. 27, GNA – Residents of Buokrom Estate, Duase and Dote in Kumasi and Ahwiaa in the Kwabre District at the weekend bagged 5,000 Ghana cedis in a fund-raising harvest at Buokrom towards the construction of a police station at Buokrom. The community-based project, estimated to cost 45,000 Ghana cedis, is being financed through the contributions of 20 Ghana cedis by every household. Madam Patricia Appiagyei, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, speaking at the sod-cutting and fund-raising, stressed the need for Ghanaians to ensure peace during the December 7 poll. She emphasised the crucial roles of security agencies in the maintenance of peace, order and protection of the lives of the people and asked the public to give them the co-operation and support to discharge their functions. Nana Owusu Bempah, Chief of Buokrom, expressed concern about the increasing rate of criminal activities in these areas and said the project was therefore embarked on by the residents to help curb such activities.

He said the communities needed also other amenities including the construction of a market, fire post, provision of water and others and appealed to them to contribute towards the provision of such facilities. Deputy Commissioner of Police Kwaku Ayensu Opare-Addo, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, commended the people for initiating the project and expressed the hope that its early completion would help reduce criminal activities in these areas. Mr Francis Ampadu, Assemblyman for Old Tafo Ahenbronum Electoral Area and resident of Ahwiaa, appealed to the people to use communal labour to support the project. He appealed to the government to support the project.
