8845 voters in Awutu-Effutu-Senya with no photo IDs

Awutu Bereku, (C/R), Aug 30, GNA – A total of 8,845 eligible voters who registered in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya district of the Central region were not captured during the last photo taking exercise.

Mr Samuel Tettey, District Electoral Officer, disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Awutu-Bereku to throw light more on the mopping up exercise, which begun on September 3,2004. He said a total of 11, 794 took their photo I D cards out of the 119,639 eligible voters who registered in the district in March 2004. Mr Tettey who has been promoted to a Deputy Director of the Commission in-charge of the Central Regional, said 3,754 voters at Kasoa were not captured during the exercise.

He said the EC had put in place effective measures to enable voters who did take their photo ID cards to have them so that they could vote in the 2004 December elections.

Mr Tettey advised those voters to take advantage of the mopping up exercise to have photo ID cards in order not to be disenfranchised.
