76 AIDS patients die under NGO care

Tuobodum (B/A), Nov. 21, GNA – All 76 persons living with HIV/AIDS and adopted by the Friends of The Sick, a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) at Tuobodum in the Techiman Municipality are reported dead. The NGO came to their aid in 2001 to offer them the necessary support towards their rehabilitation. Mr Justice Sarkodie, Executive Director of the NGO, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the victims were identified through a sensitization programme. Mr Sarkodie said after registering with the Ghana AIDS Commission, the victims were supported with anti-retroviral drugs whilst the NGO even sent some of them to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. He said the NGO had adopted about 62 children of the victims. The Executive Director commended the AIDS Commission and Ahenbronoso Care Foundation, another NGO in Techiman for their support to the organization in caring for the orphans. He appealed to the government and management of the National Health Insurance Scheme to assist in the registration of the orphans.
