700 girls to benefit from US scholarship

Old-Tafo (E/R), June 23, GNA- About 700 girls in basic schools in the East Akyem District in the Eastern Region, are to benefit from a scholarship package from World Education, a US-based non-governmental organization (NGO). The beneficiary students selected from Maase, Tontro, Old Tafo, Asafo, Etokrom, Kukurantumi and Anyinasin are among others from 15 West African countries to benefit from the scholarship known as,” The School Ambassador Girls Scholarship Programme”.

Mrs Angela Dwamena-Aboagye, Executive Director of the Ark Foundation, a gender advocacy NGO, implementing the scholarship scheme launched the programme at Akyem Old-Tafo on Tuesday. Mrs Dwamena- Aboagye expressed concern about the growing trend of child neglect in the country and called on the authorities to take a critical view of the phenomenon and punish offending parents.

A Senior Coordinator of the programme, Mrs Jane Donkor called on parents to be mindful of the rights of their children to education and take advantage of the scholarship. A retired Educationist, Mr Maxwell Osei Bosompem who chaired the function, advised the beneficiary students to study hard.
