Adidome, (V/R), May 4, GNA – The North Tongu District Assembly benefited from a total of 68 projects costing 46 billion cedis between 2001 and 2003, a projects profile jointly signed by the District Co-ordinating Director and the District Finance Officer available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) has indicated.
Funding of the projects were from the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF), the European Union (EU), Government of Ghana (GOG), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP), British Department for International Development (DFID), the International Development Agency (IDA). The highest number of projects totalling 23 were in the feeder roads sector costing, 17.8 billion cedis.
The Government of Ghana (GOG) is financing 19 of the projects, two have been completed, three are between 60 and 70 per cent complete, two in progress and 11 awarded.
Two projects, which have been completed, were under the Japanese grant and the DFID, while one has been awarded under the IDA. The education sector has 22 projects at a total cost of 4.2 billion cedis out of which 14 have been completed, seven between 70 and 90 per cent completion, one 40 per cent completed.
Projects in this sector were being funded mainly by EU/DACF, USAID/DACF and one GOG.
The Health sector has eight projects, costing a total of 879.5 million cedis.
Five of the projects are completed, two at about 98 per cent completion and one, about 45 per cent completed with the DACF and EU being the main sources of funding.
There are seven Local Government projects costing four billion cedis, funded mainly under the DACF, joint EU/DACF and VIP/DACF out of which four are completed with others at 60 per cent, 75 per cent and 40 per cent completed stages.
Agriculture has four projects mainly irrigation at Korlor, Agorveme, Aveyime and new Bakpa at a total cost of 13.5 billion. A total of 12 projects were started in January this year at the Adidome Secondary School towards it’s upgrading with funding from HIPC/GETFUND.
Fifteen other projects under HIPC Fund are at various levels of construction in the district.
