Goore-Nayoko (U/E), April 4, GNA- A 400 million cedis health centre has been inaugurated at Goore-Nayoko, near Bawku in the Upper East Region.
It was provided by the Harmatan Foundation (HF) and United Cultures Ghana (UCG), both Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO’s) and supported by the Bawku Municipal Assembly, whilst the community supported with communal labour.
Inaugurating it, Mr. Abdul-Rahman Gumah, Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, reiterated government’s determination to make health care delivery easily accessible to rural dwellers.
He said the provision of health facilities was paramount to meet the health needs of every community in order to address their socio-economic needs.
Mr. Gumah said in order to achieve this dream; the Assembly was sponsoring over 50 trainees in the health sector to augment the strength of health personnel for quality health care delivery. Another 100 youth have been recruited under the National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP) to undergo training and work as health assistants in the Municipality.
He appealed to the chief and the community to lend their continuous support to the remaining components of the project to provide a borehole for the centre.
The MCE expressed the Assembly’s gratitude to the NGOs and appealed to other benevolent NGOs and philanthropists to assist deprived communities in the municipality.
Dr. William Duodu, Municipal Director of Ghana Health Services (GHS) said qualified personnel have already been posted to the centre to attend to patients so that they don’t travel all the way to Bawku to seek medical care.
He said the centre was capable of meeting the health needs of the community and it environs and urged the community to take full advantage of it.
Dr. Duodu advised the people to take advantage of the health centre to register with the mutual health Insurance scheme in order to enjoy the full benefits of the scheme.
He reminded the people of the diseases that accompany the dry season and advised them to report any illness for early detection and treatment especially Cero spinal meningitis.
