38 communities in Pusiga to be connected to national grid

Accra, July 13, GNA – Mr Joe Oten Adjei, Minister of Energy, said on Tuesday that a total of 38 communities in the Pusiga constituency in the Upper East Region are earmarked for connection to the national electricity grid. Mr Adjei said on the floor of parliament during question time that the communities following the completion of preliminary surveys by the Ministry would be considered under the financing package for the three Northern Regions recently approved by cabinet. He noted that the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Mr Simon Atingban Akunye, presented the list to the Ministry. Mr Adjei said the Ministry was at the moment going through the necessary contract preparatory stages to allow for the commencement of the projects. He said the projects in the Pusiga constituency may therefore commence before the end of 2010, following the completion of the contract preparatory works.
