36 year-old driver granted bail

Frank Appiah, a 36 year-old driver, has been granted GH¢10,000.00 bail with two sureties, by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for careless and inconsiderate driving and negligently causing harm.

He pleaded guilty.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Justice Kwasi Anto Ofori-Atta, entered a plea of not guilty for him.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that, on July 6, at about 1300 hours, the accused person was driving a Mercedes Benz with registration number WR 1304-X with passengers on board from Accra towards Bogoso.

He said on reaching a section of the road at Awudua junction, he lost control of his vehicle and knocked down a bicycle rider, Charles Amoah, 46.

The victim sustained various degree injuries and was rushed to the Tarkwa Government hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Detective Amponsah said after investigation, a duplicate docket was prepared and forwarded to the Attorney General’s office at Sekondi on October 9, for study and advice, which instructed that the accused person should be charged with the offences.

The case has been adjourned to January 26 for hearing.
