35-year-old armed robber gunned down

A suspected armed robber, Simeon Offei, 35 years old, has met his untimely death while his supposed accomplice, Seth Tetteh, 28, was also shot on his left leg when a mob attacked them at Somanya in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atua Government Hospital, while the injured suspect is receiving treatment at the same health centre under police guard.

Confirming the incident to DAILY GUIDE on Wednesday, ASP Francis Ackah, Akuse Police Commander, hinted that the suspected robbers – one of who is currently on the run – on Tuesday at dawn stormed the residential area of the Yilo Krobo Municipal Chief Executive in a Kia Rio taxi with registration number GR 2277-10, and broke into a provision shop.

ASP Francis Ackah posited that the robbers managed to take away four bags of rice, one bag of sugar, an amount of GH¢1,500 and some cartons of assorted drinks and parked them into the taxi in the face of power outage (dumsor).

According to the Akuse police chief, a resident who spotted the robbers in action raised an alarm which drew some residents to the scene with matchetes and pump action guns.

He said when the robbers sighted the mob approaching, they attempted to run away but one of the angry residents shot the left leg of one of the robbers, while another one was gunned down. The other managed to drive the taxi away.
