The Principal of Sunyani Polytechnic, Dr. Kwasi Gyabaah, has said that this year, the polytechnic will benefit up to the tune of ?3.7 billion from GETFUND for infrastructural development.
Dr. Gyabaah commended the government for its efforts at developing the polytechnic through the GETFUND.
The government, according to Mr. Gyabaah, is paying much attention to the polytechnic to ensure that structures of the polytechnic would not collapse.
In his address at the Sunyani Polytechnic week celebration of Ghana National Union of the Polytechnic Student (GNUPS), the Principal said that the institution is grateful to the government for the improvement of roads on the campus.
According to the principal, the sustainable development of any country starts in the classroom.
He explained that the main goals of the polytechnic is to contribute to Ghana’s employment sector by training professionals to improve the nation’s economy.
He further said that if the polytechnic can fulfil their goals, they need to be fully equipped. He appealed to the students to work hard and also avoid examination malpractice, which would eventually land them into trouble.
The SRC President , Mr. Osei-Nti Douglas, has appealed to the government to assist the polytechnic students to remove all bottlenecks in searching for industrial attachment.
He explained that the polytechnic students face a whole lot of difficulties when seeking for industrial attachment.
Mr. Douglas said that the students of the polytechnic are putting up their own SRC premises at the cost of ?137 millions, which is at the roofing stage.
Miss Veronica Ayeh, representing the Acting Regional Director of Education Service, said in order to come to realization, women need to be well educated and become professionals.
For anyone to be a true professional, she should have some moral value as well as positive value in character.
Miss Ayeh told the students that they should be disciplined and always sit down to read their books and do research into their chosen career.
She advised the students that they should not allow the monies paid by the government and their parents to go waste.
