24-Year-old sentenced to 25 years for rape

The Mpraeso Circuit Court has sentenced a 24-year-old unemployed to 25 years imprisonment in hard labour for raping an 18-year-old girl at Abetifi.

Kwame Stephen pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Christian Apronti told the court that Stephen lives in the same area with the victim and on January 13, he took some sexually enhanced drugs to have sex with his girlfriend who failed to turn up.

He said as the accused could not control his sexual desires after taking the drugs, at about 01.00 hours while the victim was asleep with her siblings in their room, the accused forcibly opened their door with a cutlass and threatened to kill the victim if she refused to have sexual intercourse with him.

The prosecutor said the victim who was afraid of her life gave in to the request of the accused and he escaped after satisfying himself.

He said the victim started bleeding after the act and was taken to the Kwahu Government Hospital at Atibie by some of her relatives who heard her screaming for help.

Detective Inspector Apronti said the case was reported to the Abetifi Police and Stephen was arrested.
