This year’s annual Ramadan fasting is likely to start on Friday, 26th or Saturday, 27th May, 2017.
This was the outcome of the 23rd Annual National Ramadan Conference held at Wa in the Upper West Region from 12th to 14th May, 2017.
The ten regional Imams and the National Council of Zongo Chiefs unanimously resolved that Thursday, May 25, is the 29th day of Shaaban – the eight month of the Islamic calender – hence the day to sight the moon.
“If sighted, Friday, 26th May shall be the 1st day of Ramadan. If not seen, Saturday, 27th of May shall automatically be the 1st day of Ramadan 2017,” a release from the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has stated.
The National Chief Imam, in the release, entreated all Muslims in the country to make it a point to come out and look for the moon.
“The cut-out time for relying on any information on the sighting shall be 10:00 pm after which no information shall be entertained by my office,” the release added.
