2016 polls: Volta NPP eyeing 50% of Presidential votes

The Volta regional branch of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has vowed to capture 50 percent of the votes in the area in next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

The region is the stronghold of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The NPP has not fared well in previous elections in the region and currently does not hold any parliamentary seat there.

Speaking to Starr News, regional chairman of the party John Peter Anewu said the trend will change next year.

“We as a party have examined our past experiences, looked at our historical performances and we have devised a strategy to take us there.

“It is a fact that the votes in the Volta region do not reflect the will of the people. Most of the votes don’t come from places you would expect them to come from.

“The 50 percent may look unrealistic, but it’s a target we have set for ourselves and we are putting measures in place to achieve that,” he noted.
