The main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the President’s ‘cluelessness’ in handling the economy makes the party doubt he can fulfill his promise of ‘better days’ in 2014.
NPP General Secretary Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie told XYZ News on Monday, he doubts President John Mahama can turn the economy around next year.
Mr Mahama assured Ghanaians of better opportunities next year when he spoke at the end of year National Thanksgiving service of AGLOW International.
He said although the first year of his presidency has been rough, Ghanaians should expect new and better opportunities in the coming year.
Sir John, as the NPP General Secretary is known, however, said he feared for the worst judging by the President’s performance in 2013.
“I cannot see him delivering on any of the promises made to Ghanaians,” he said.
“We were told that by the end of this year, several schools would have been built, yet not one block has been produced.”
He wonders: “How anyone can trust this government” with the numerous failed promises and corruption allegations surrounding the Mahama administration.
Similarly, the Communications Director of another opposition party, the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfrah, said: “The past twelve months have been difficult for most Ghanaians; poverty has increased on many fronts. This hardship has been created by the government”.
He prays government would be in “a position to better manage the economy” next year.
The first year of the Mahama-led administration has been saddled with various challenges ranging from corruption allegations, market fires to labour unrests.
