2000 Traders Vacate Stalls At Racecourse

The Race Course Traders Association in Kumasi are complaining about the present inhabitable situation at the course.

Nsuom where most of these traders ply their trade is devoid of a drainage system thus rendering the place waterlogged and discouraging prospective buyers from coming to the place.

Two thousand stalls have been vacated by their occupants as a result of this development.

Even though efforts have been made by some traders to construct drainage systems more has to be done to make the place habitable.

In an interview with the Chairman of the association, Mr. Kwame Kusi, he wondered why the KMA collects tolls and overlook the plight of traders in the area.

He lamented the unhygienic setting, which has made it possible for some people to use the place as a place of convenience.

The race-course it would be recalled was allocated to traders selling around Kejetia and involved the efforts of both the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and the Regional Co-ordinating Council.

The traders therefore are appealing to the Metro-Chief-Executive to come to their aid by creating an accessible road to the area.

The Metro-Chief-Executive in his sessional address proposed the creation of satellite markets and in this regard the race-course should receive maximum attention.
